Multifamily Weatherization Assistance

Increased funding for the weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) provided a unique opportunity to expand the benefits of residential energy efficiency improvements to a wider range of eligible families not traditionally served by the program. Nationwide, there are 34 million families who are income eligible for WAP services, including 17 million renter households.

Repairs included installing new heating and cooling systems, water heaters, windows and Energy Star appliances such as refrigerators.

Who the Program Helps

KHRC's multifamily weatherization program assists low-income families make home repairs that lower their energy bills. The program serves households that include senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and families with children. Eligible properties include USDA, Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, and HUD Section 8 properties that are 15 years old or older.

Eligibility Requirements

The current eligibility standards in Kansas are at or below 200% of the federal poverty level or 75% of the state median, whichever is higher (family of  four $52,397.00). A household that receives either Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Temporary Assistance to Families (TANF) during the previous twelve months is automatically eligible for weatherization without regard to income.
